Eleven Months

Sela Ruth Dougherty, 11 months old

Sela's verse: Ephesians 3:16-17 (New Living Translation)

16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.

What can we say about Miss Sela? She is such an amazing little person!

She is full of smiles with four teeth shining through.
Ryan describes her as very joyous. He wonders if that quick smile is a connection with her fellow September 1st birthday partner, Uncle Derek. Her smile usually also involves some quality nose-crinkling...super cute! She has a serious side with a furrowed brow just like when she was born. Never really fussy or mad, she does have quite a loud voice! She babbles and chats and when she gets excited, man, she can let loose with a squawk and squeal!

Sela points and has a talent for clicking her tongue--LOUD! A month ago Sela began pulling herself up and now is sliding along the couches. She likes to find a chair, pull herself up to standing, and then push the chair around as she "practices" her walking.

Sela loves her brother. She wants to be near him and can find Quinn anywhere in the house. If he is sitting at the kitchen table, she wants to be standing by his chair. If he is in his room with the door closed, she will lay on the floor and put her fingers under his door.

Quinn and Sela have fun together. Quinn likes to entertain Sela and wants to be silly for her. There are some things that I think are just a picture of the future as they both get older.

Sela loves to eat! She loves cheese! Eating Ritz crackers...one in each hand. Avacado. Sweet Potatoes. Oatmeal with kale. Applesauce. Broccoli. Nectarines. Brown rice. She is willing to try anything and for dinner tonight ate one egg yolk, 3/4 banana, bowl of applesauce, 1/2 piece of wheat toast, and two Ritz crackers. She really out eats Quinn with ease. We think her weight is about 20 pounds. She is still nursing although she wants to be up looking around so I expect there will be a conversion to a cup at a year.

She sleeps like a champ! She has been sleeping through the night for months now. She goes to bed with a pacifier, and I hum her the Mary Poppins tune "Stay Awake." She'll cuddle a little bit but likes to lean over her crib and get right in. She is happy in the morning and usually wakes up around 7...although there was a stretch where she was waking up around 6 and 6:30 and I didn't think that was the best arrangement. I was thankful for the 7am wake up call when it returned.

Sela's eyes have stayed blue and her hair is sandy brown. She has full pink cheeks and dimpled arms. People most often comment on her cheeks and her eyes. Her hair is getting longer on top but is growing pretty slowly in the back. I don't usually put things in it right now because everything winds up in her mouth.

We are so thankful that Sela is here and that we can enjoy the little person that she is! What a blessing from God!

Stay Awake from Mary Poppins

Stay awake, don't rest your head

Don't lie down upon your bed

While the moon drifts in the skies

Stay awake, don't close your eyes

Though the world is fast asleep

Though your pillow's soft and deep

You're not sleepy as you seem

Stay awake, don't nod and dream

Stay awake, don't nod and dream
